A small, rhizomatous shrub that can be aggressive in a garden setting. Small yellow flowers are not particularly showy but are a favorite of bees. Is a larval host of the Snowberry clearwing and Hummingbird clearwing moths. Foliage turns a a beautiful red color in fall. The wild population along our woods often gets browsed by deer in the fall but easily recovers the next spring.
