Small’s beardtongue

Penstemon smallii

  • About

Numerous, tube-shaped, dark-pink to purple, white-throated flowers are borne on upright, branched stalks up to 2 1/2 ft. high. Prefers part shade to sun and moist to dry soils. Blooms May to July.

  • Ecological importance

Attractive to butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.

  • Why Courtney loves it

I love Small’s beardtongue because it is a little more petite than other beardtongues and because it blooms for weeks longer than other beardtongues. An excellent plant for the front of the garden!

Perennial & native to the Southeastern US
