Pink turtlehead

Chelone lyonii

  • About

Does well in sun to part shade and in medium to medium-wet soils. Grows up to 4’ in height and blooms August to October. Resistant to deer.

This species occasionally escapes from cultivation in New England. - Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

  • Ecological importance

    Attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

Works well in a woodland setting and moist sites along bogs, ponds or streams.

  • Why Courtney loves it

There is nothing more delightful than watching as a bumblebee works it’s way inside a pink turtlehead flower.

I love this rather care-free flower that can manage heavy-wet soils a lot of other plants can’t!

Perennial & native to the Southeastern US
